misc. topics #2...

on your marks, get set...........GO!

1) around this time last year, i would've been in montreal, enjoying extremely cold weather and staying out till un-godly hours of the night only to wake up the next morning to a buncha conference sessions.....yeah, that's right, i said CONFERENCE. why else would a young adult go to montreal for a weekend?! the past two years, i went to montreal for the mcgill model united nations conference and had tons of fun...kinda...sorta. we (delegation of 50 kiddos from York U) always stayed in the same hotel it was held in, the sheraton, which was great because it was RIGHT in the middle of downtown montreal, but bad because it was far from old montreal and there was never anytime to go to that part of the city. the first year i went, i was the good delegate who did research, lobbied, wrote up resolutions, said speeches etc. and i didn't venture out into the city as much as i would have loved to. the second year, i realized that i was getting sick of MUN and lazied around during the sessions... also, i was in love with the chairperson and my poor lovestruck self didn't feel like doing anything, which meant i focused more on seeing the city :D the only time i spoke at that conference last year was to yell at everybody in the room.... really..it was relevant yelling though and i still remember how everyone looked at me wild-eyed (especially the chairperson) because i hadn't said a thing the entire day and all of the sudden, i raised my placard and was the last one to speak that day and i yelled :D. then we got dismissed... however, God does not want me to have memories of these trips. the first year, i took my parents' old camera and took about a whole roll's worth and when i got home to take out the film, voila! there was nothing there...i was taking pics on empty (happened to me on my junior prom too), oh yeah, and i left my wallet at the hotel too....grrr...last year, i took my brother's digital camera and the first night we got there, a bunch of us went out for coffee and we took pics, then we walked back to the hotel and the camera wasn't with me anymore!! damn if i didn't retrace my steps everyday we were there, in the morning and the evening! i gave my bro 300 buckaroos for it....i kinda miss MUN now...

2)my visionary powers weren't up to par today...i do not know why i did not know..oh yes i do, BECAUSE NO ONE TOLD ME...call me selfish, but i HATE when my family decides to invite people over when 1)i have tons of homework to do and 2)when they never end up telling me! it's crazy how i'm always the last person to know...my mom sent me on a bunch of errands today..juice, cake, cauliflower..stuff. and she was cooking all day while i was "studying" all day. she comes into my room at 5 pm and i ask her when dinner is:

mom: when they arrive

me: HUH?! who?!

mom: ummm, the dinner guests...

at this point, i turn into a monster and my mom doesn't know whether to calm me down or run for her life...she stays..i'll spare you the details, but just so you know, grumpy-frumpy me went downstairs, got some dinner and stayed in my room the entire time the guests were over, they came about 10 minutes after i found out they were coming...

3) Google Earth brings tears of joy to my eyes...yessireee. i downloaded it today to see what the whole fuss was about, and i must declare (you can quote me on this): Google Earth is the mostest beautifullest application to grace this planet..or wait, to map this planet. it is a never-ending source of wonder for stalkers like me.. :p .... so! you can click on types of locations, and they'll pop up on the map. to my utter horror, no cafes in the greater toronto area have been identified..i checked other cities, THEY had some cafe points...what's wrong with you torontonians?! if you ever wanna know what GIS is, its Google Earth!

yikes, long post..but lastly, when i was doing errands for my mom, it was raining cats and dogs, and this car to my right sprayed my car with such force that i thought the windsheild was gonna shatter and i even ducked....

fanta/crush/pepsi/7-up....whatever your choice of soft drink is...

i personally like to call it a fanta. it's much more discreet that way ;P

usually, i find This Fish's posts really depressing, but she's been in a better mood lately and more enjoyable to read.... ESPECIALLY her last post about, ahm ahm, crushes!!

so back in highschool, my friends and i would have a nickname for all those we had a crush on...except joe..he was always "joe" and if we like anyone who looked like him, they'd be "joe 2", "joe 3" and so on....i think there were about 4 joes in total....lemme see how many others i can remember....

- LSW: little spanish warrior..ummm..yeah, he represented Spain at a conference or something..

- Puma: he used to wear a puma hat....a guy got dared by his girlfriend who was jealous of me to tell Puma that i liked him infront of his whole class....it was painful

- Stan: rapped Eminem's "Stan" at a Talent Show.....got rejected by that one majorly....ouch

- Gambia: (for starla)...he had long sideburns and was British or something i think...

i haven't seen most of these fellas in about 4-5 years.... although i did see Joe once last year and once the year before that, and I also saw Yaz once last year (i knew it was him before i even saw him!).....brought back a lot of memories...surprised i even recognized them!.. yeah, no one recognized me and they all thought i was stalker-ish....

EDIT: in my last year of highschool, there were some others....

- oK: who everybody hated and was stoned all the time...

- Tea-Chai: oK's friend...never seen him stoned

- Toucan: he had a big nose, but a lot of people thought he was good-looking...not my crush though

i'm thinking of changing the layout, but blog.com doesn't let you design it freely..they give you templates...which of the three below do you like? personally, i like NONE..but those were the best of the worst..they're THAT bad...

i broke the #1 and #2 coffeehouse rules...

sheeeesh! finally some time to myself!! class, class, class, meeting, meeting, got home and helped my mom out, helped my sis study for an exam (i fed her a whole lotta anti-globalization, anti-capitalist banter, poor kid), and FINALLY i am sitting in my sanctuary that is my room in peace!

some coffeehouse rules...

rule numero uno: never blog twice on the same day. i don't like how it looks....besides, then it appears as if i have no life and that i'm on the comp 24/7.....i don't and i am but at least i wasn't displaying it like dirty laundry.. :p

rule #2 ( what is it in spanish, gil?): politiking stays in the real world, do not bring it into net-heaven. yeaaaahhh, i've broken that rule a couple of times over this past week and i should know better...i get enough of it on campus and at home. let's, like, talk about britney spears for a change, like totally.

group projects are the newest tools for lazy profs to reduce their marking time to have more time to be, yes, lazy! i don't like them, sometimes the people are annoying, sometimes they're dumb, and sometimes nothing gets done.....plus i end up acting like a dictator and i just hate that :p anyhoo, so i got put in a group with a buncha guys for the second time (boys have a weird sense of humour among themselves) and i didn't mind them too much because one of them i knew to be really nice and intellectual and he's been in a lot of my other classes, another was also really nice..BUT, the third one...weeell, i've never met him before. he's this big, burly, lumberjack dude who looks like he has lipstick on. i'm serious, mr. lipstick was sitting right across from me and his lips were this colour                  . plus, the way he pursed his lips looked like he was used to blotting them or something...but he was really funny/cute. this class is really "up-there" it's really abstract (think smoked-up hippie prof) qualitative research and we were supposed to come up with a project topic. i was thinking we should observe some kind of human behaviour (yuuup, "observe" ;p), and mr. lipstick kept suggesting we observe the squirrels or the birds trapped in the glass pathways and their reaction to humans...ummm, no...

i was too busy to mourn...

i actually tried mourning but today is tuesday and tuesdays are my sleeping days....sleep on the bus, at my job, during class, whenever i can manage to sneak in a minute or two of sleep, i dose off :D i read more than slept on the job today however. i learned about malcolm x, ballroom dancing, and the "assassins" (or hashashiyun which were apparently a semi-mythical muslim sect in medieval times). i love books, and while i'm on book-hunts for my boss, i come across some really interesting ones and try to remember them for future reading...so far, i haven't really remembered any of them, EXCEPT this one book that has the screenplays for "thelma & louise" and "something to talk about"...haven't seen either movies, but reading scripts is fun (starla got me hooked on them a looong time ago :p)...

okay, back to the mourning. everyone was pretty much screaming and yelling today about the elections outcome and i realized that most young people are really supportive of social change and therefore, the ndp :D ....damn stupid prairie rednecks! they just want to continue exploiting the environment....

we have some family over at our house now, and every two seconds, a HUGE earthquake shakes the foundations of our poor humble home...three kids with ages ranging from 2-5 who like to run through the hallways and slam the doors. vunderfull. and the parents can't seem to get them to calm down... here's a clue, it's 11 o'clock pm and about 4 hours past their bedtimes. yes, maybe if i decided to go downstairs and distract the children from causing natural disasters, we wouldn't have this problem, but i'm tired and i still consider myself the b-day girl....i'm not moving an inch OR lifting a finger :p

mad props and hugs and kisses and sugar and spice and everything nice to gilly for providing me with an official "caffeine queenie" shirt and chocolate-covered coffee-beans (which won't make it past tonight).

thnx everybody for your kind words and kinder presents ;)

another militant monday...

today:

- phone tag with gil

- elections

- did not see mr. eye-candy (it's not meant to be, i tell ya!)

- missed starla's phone call (i won't be home until late tomorrow hun :D)

- and lots of presents :P

onto more serious matters....<drumroll > : marsden and her posse a year ago

Jan 20th, 2005: it was Eid, Bush's second inaugeration, and i decided to go to class because i had skipped it so many times....i walked through Vari Hall after class on my way somewhere and i saw all these people just standing around, some of them were crying, others were cleaning up the signs and flags mess on the floor and then a whooooolle lotta people were JUST leaving (i missed the whole thing by a mere minute) the rotunda...so i followed them like a good girl and called up gil and found her and cirus and other friends forming a crowd around a bunch of cops treating us like delinquents and criminals.

the grassroots anti-imperialist network (GRAIN) and other groups on campus held a rally in the Vari Hall rotunda to protest Bush, the US, Israel, the war on Iraq, the occupation of Palestine, Exxon Mobil, and other corporate and imperialist bastards such as York University for censoring freedom of speech and taking away our right to use student space (i don't pay 5 grand a year for nothing!) after March 16, 2004 (good times!)...

visually, this is what happened -->Camera One- January 20th Police Attack (the only link working now..it's an old site) and --> still Images from Camera Two in case you can't view the movies

the next daaay and for pretty much the rest of the next week.....and they showed the videos over and over....

i feel like crying everytime i see mike being beaten down in the video and think of nick in my environmental politics class who was taken into an empty classroom and privately beaten by the police and hospitalized....and then i hafto laugh everytime i remember the following week at another rally, when cirus recognized a cop (undercover then)standing right beside us, who was there on the 20th and started yelling at him causing the whole crowd to start screaming at him "shaaaaaammmmmme" and chanting "cops off campus"....the poor dude had "guilty" written ALL over him!

campus policy states that in any case of emergency, york security (who can't do jack-shyte if they see someone getting beaten up/molested except call 911) is called first, then they call whoever deals with it.....campus security was never present that day to begin with and they called toronto's most racist and violent police division on us...

today, there was another rally held...i only managed to make it to the last bit...there was no trouble, especially since the York Federation of Students got in on the action and started holding events in the forbidden rotunda like there was no tomorrow......lorna marsden didn't dare pull another "marsden"....

lefties make the world go round...

i'm gonna be hyperlinking like crazy....

elections are tomorrow and i'm not feeling anxious or nervous, or even excited about the outcome because 1) with our stupid voting system, my vote only counts if i vote for either the liberals (yuck) or the conservatives (double-yuck) and 2) martin and harper are worse than each other.....i'm not sure who i'm gonna vote for exactly, but definately anything left of liberal. first time i voted, i voted green!! we also had someone from the communist party and another from the marxist party running in my riding...they need to get some posters up. i hope the ndp get more seats in parliament this time around (if not the majority...that would be wonderful!).

so i did this quizzy-thingy i got off of shamini's website that tells you how much you agree with each of the parties/candidates on issues.... this is what i got:

1.  Jack Layton Leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada   (100%)  Click here for info
2.  Paul Martin Leader of Liberal Party of Canada, Prime Minister of Canada   (63%)  Click here for info
3.  Stephen Harper Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada   (54%)  Click here for info
4.  Gilles Duceppe Leader of the Bloc Quebecois   (40%)  Click here for info

i was really glad to see a question on proportional representation in the quiz, it's good to let people know there is such an option out there!

i have a south-east asian fetish that started in the beginning of last summer....yesterday i went to crazy sushi(can't find their website, but i assure you its yummmyyyy. must try the tepanyaki room sometime) with amira (she needs to get a blog so i can hyperlink her) and now i'm eating the japanese (not chinese) miracle-snack pocky....i finally got the green tea flavour... yummm... i actually bought three packs an hour ago, one chocolate, one strawberry, and the green tea, and now i'm down to one pack....it's addictive!

i love editing wikipedia..... < evil laugh >

insert "stare decisis", "mens rea" and other latin lawyer jargon here...

(For the sake of maintaining a lawyer-y tone, I will write this post with proper grammar and punctuation!)

It's 2:45 am, Friday morning, and I feel like a lawyer preparing for a big case in a couple of hours. Well, that's close enough. I'm writing a letter of apology to someone who really doesn't deserve an apology, from someone who really shouldn't be giving an apology (no, not me). I don't know why I volunteered to write it, because I'm very tired, and honestly, not in the b/s-ing mood. That's bad, because that's all the letter is, BS!! Anyways, I feel like a lawyer because I'm looking through about 4 different documents in chronological order at the same time, in addition to a constitution and a complaint decision, so that I know what to apologize for and why!! This guy, let's call him Mr. I-have-so-much-time-on-my-hands-that-I-just-want-to-cause-shyte-for-the-sake-of-bugging-others-and-bringing-spotlight-to-the-fact-that-I-have-so-much-time-on-my-hands (Idiot for short), has been killed about 6 times in the last three years by various people and/or groups and continues to reappear, but in different forms. You're such an idiot, Idiot. Oops, it's 3 am and I need to get this letter done so I can sleep and bring it to the trial...err, meeting. Got to go.

Watch me get dooced....

You know what, lawyer-y posts are no fun!

let's go back to this..... ;)

EDIT: turns out the SOB didn't want an apology to begin with...

wisdom hurts...

i'm in paaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiinnn......you know in the olden days, when someone had a toothache they'd wrap their face with a huge white bandage and tie it in a bow on top of their head?...well i need one of those!! especially the bow, that's probably the healing component. i am currently drinking green tea in a green mug (the irony) in hopes of numbing my throbbing jaw. my bottom wisdom teeth are weird...so weird that they have come out sideways and won't come out fully....i hafto get them taken out sometime soon but it's scary cause i have to be unconscious and it involves the operating room and weeelll, i've watched enough medical shows to know that doctors/dentists don't really know what to do most of the time..not to mention how many post teeth-extraction horror stories i've heard...let's just say that recovering might not be fun and may require tylenol 3 and some serious anti-depressants (that's scary in itself as i see myself as a potential addict)....queenie is teething....

where art thou, mr. eye-candy?

well, i'm very dissappointed in mr. eye-candy, but he doesn't know it...he didn't show up for class yesterday AND he wasn't in my other course today, which i believe is a program requirement!! he's going to flunk if he doesn't get his act together!! this is sad....for those of you dyyiiing to know what mr. eye-candy looks like, here is a rough drawing courtesy of gilary....

but minus the big hair (its an older drawing of him :p )...

my friends never listen...maybe they can read: I CAN SMELL A JERK A MILE AWAY, i've also been psychic since highschool and i'm a visionary (dammit, i am a visionary!) and if i tell you the dude's a dud, he's definately a dud, kapeesh? .....sheesh, geminis (3 of them!!)...you guys have used up my sympathy-reserve and have moved onto depleting my patience...
